Why I recently became a Certified Menopause Coaching Specialist

For over half of the worlds population Menopause is a normal part of life, not an illness or disease.

If you include post menopause, it includes half the worlds population for over half their lives.

Despite this, many women will encounter stigma, prejudice, judgment & even discrimination as they enter their transition.

Research shows that silence, shame, discrimination & stigma relating to age & menopause can have a huge impact on quality of life.

Fears such as…

‘Will people still find me interesting as I get older or will I be seen an old, unappealing or irrelevant?’

‘Will my workplace be supportive if I’m experiencing symptoms?’

‘Will I be able to keep up with my responsibilities or will menopause take over my life?’

‘Will my concerns be listened to & understood?’

‘Will people be embarrassed or disgusted if I mentioned the M word’

… are perfectly justified as the topic of menopause is still so taboo.

People still don’t like discussing periods, never mind menopause!

Menopause isn’t all doom & gloom. It can be a productive & position transition- despite some uncomfortable physical changes.

The more that we listen to & share women’s stories, the more we’ll contribute to it being a rich, multilayered experience- & a powerful life transition  of itself-rather than something just to be endured.

I can’t wave a magic wand and undo all the stigma- but I can make things better for the women I work with- one woman at a time.
